TruckingU

Updated. On demand.
Built for today’s trucking insurance market.

Trucking insurance is full of coverage questions that don’t have simple answers.

A driver gets hurt in the yard. A cargo claim comes in. A client asks if their policy covers a trailer they don’t own. You need more than a quick answer. You need to know how the pieces fit together.

TruckingU is MCIEF’s new, upgraded entry-level course. It brings key trucking insurance topics into one consolidated, updated program.

It’s built for today’s market. It’s on demand. And it’s open to members and non-members.

TruckingU: Learn On Your Time

TruckingU works around your schedule.

  • On-demand modules
  • No set class times
  • Learn at your own pace
  • Pause and come back when you need to
  • Revisit a lesson before a client call, renewal, or coverage question

Who Should Take It

TruckingU is a great first step for:

  • Agents new to trucking insurance

  • Producers who inherited a trucking book

  • Agents who want to fill in coverage gaps

  • Underwriters who want more practical context

  • Claims professionals who want a stronger coverage foundation

  • Teams training new hires

  • Non-members who want trucking insurance education

You don’t need prior trucking insurance experience.

What You’ll Learn

TruckingU 2.0 gives you a solid foundation in the coverage issues motor carriers face every day.

  • General liability. Learn where GL fits, where auto liability stops, and why both matter.

  • Cargo coverage. See why cargo forms vary so much and what agents need to check before binding coverage.

  • The Carmack Amendment. Learn the federal rules behind cargo liability in interstate commerce.

  • Physical damage. Understand stated amount, trailer coverage, wrecker bills, GAP coverage, and related issues.

  • Workers’ comp. Learn why multi-state operations can create coverage gaps and audit problems.

  • Other than auto coverage. Get a clearer picture of risks at the yard, office, docks, repair shop, and customer locations.

The course uses practical coverage situations, policy wording, and claims examples. It helps connect what you read in a policy to what can happen in the real world.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TruckingU?

TruckingU is MCIEF’s new, upgraded version of its trucking insurance training. It combines and updates the course material into one entry-level, on-demand training program built for the current trucking insurance market.

Is TruckingU the same as the older version of the course?

It covers the same need: helping people build a foundation in trucking insurance. TruckingU is the new consolidated and updated version, with content organized for the way trucking insurance professionals work and learn today.

Is TruckingU on demand?

Yes. You can start the course when it fits your schedule, work through modules at your own pace, and pause and return as needed. There are no set class times to work around.

Do I need to be an MCIEF member to take TruckingU?

No. TruckingU is open to non-members. You’re welcome to enroll whether or not you belong to MCIEF, though members do get a lower price.

Does TruckingU count toward the TRS or TCS designation?

No. TruckingU is an entry-level course, built to give you a solid foundation in trucking insurance basics. It’s a great starting point, but it doesn’t apply toward TRS or TCS credit.

Is TruckingU only for agents new to trucking insurance?

It’s designed as an entry-level course, so it’s a natural fit if you’re new to the space.

How long does the course take to complete?

TruckingU includes hours of course content, split into on-demand modules. You can work through it at your own pace, so there’s no need to finish it in one sitting or on a fixed timeline.

Do you offer discounts for multiple people from the same company?

Yes. If you’re enrolling more than one person, contact MCIEF at mcief@mcief.org to ask about multiple-seat discounts for TruckingU. The on-demand course format is a good fit for teams since each person can complete it around their own schedule.

Does TruckingU qualify for Continuing Education (CE) credit?

No. TruckingU does not qualify for CE credit. It is an on-demand, entry-level course created to help you build a stronger foundation in trucking insurance.

Do I need any experience before taking this course?

No prior trucking insurance background is required. Since it’s entry-level, it’s built to work whether you’re brand new to the space or you’ve been writing trucking accounts for a while and want a more complete foundation.

Is this course only about auto liability?

No. TruckingU covers general liability, cargo, physical damage, and workers’ compensation too, since a motor carrier’s real exposure goes well beyond the truck itself.

What should I take after TruckingU?

Once you’ve got the fundamentals down, you can look into MCIEF’s other courses, including the ones that count toward the TRS or TCS designation, depending on whether your focus is more on the sales and underwriting side or the claims side.

How do I sign up?

You can enroll here. No membership is required. You can also join MCIEF first to get member pricing.
