Garth Pitzel

Director, Safety and Driver Development – Bison Transport, Inc.

Garth Pitzel is the Associate Vice President, Safety and Driver at Bison Transport. Garth first entered the transportation industry in 1981 and worked in various capacities before joining Bison Transport in 1994, becoming Director in 2001 and Senior Director in 2019 and Associate VP in 2020.
Bison Transport is one of Canada’s largest carriers and is recognized as the ‘Safest Fleet in North America’. As the Senior Director of Safety and Driver Development, Garth is responsible for safety and driver development programs and the advancement of Bison’s safety culture.
Garth is active in promoting the industry and in furthering transportation and workplace safety initiatives. He has been inducted to the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) Pioneer Club and was the recipient of the 2016 Clare C. Casey Professional of the Year award from the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). In 2020, Garth was honored with the Saskatchewan Trucking Association’s (STA) Service to Industry award. He is currently involved with the STA as a board member, and both the TCA Recruitment, Retention and Human Resources as well as the Safety and Security Committee. Garth has appeared at many industry related events as a speaker and presenter.
Married with three children, Garth makes St. Andrews, Manitoba home and in his free time enjoys woodworking, cottage life and snowmobiling.
