In this latest video, Joseph Grasso speaks with trucking insurance veteran Tommy Ruke about MOTUS, the FMCSA’s new Modernized Registration and Identity Management System. The new platform is designed to improve identity verification, reduce carrier fraud, and modernize how carriers manage their FMCSA accounts.

For insurance agents, this matters because carriers that fail to prepare could run into account access issues, filing delays, and eventually inactive status. If a carrier is operating while inactive, that could create serious problems for getting loads, maintaining compliance, and defending claims after an accident.

Carriers should act now by making sure their FMCSA portal access is current, their MCS-150 information is accurate, and their business address on file is a real street address rather than a P.O. box. They should also be ready to complete identity verification using a passport, driver’s license, permanent resident card, or other government-issued ID.

The video also highlights that smaller carriers may be especially unprepared, and agents should take the lead in educating their insureds before MODIS causes operational disruptions. The long-term takeaway is simple: agents who understand MODIS will be better positioned to protect their clients and avoid unnecessary coverage and claims complications.
